Think about how you will use your camera

Will this be used for mostly video or photography? Yes, there are subtle differences, but overall it is good to have an idea of the main uses for your camera.

If you want to use the camera for video, you will want a camera that comes with a zoom lens so you can get close-up and far shots without having to move so much. Photographers will want an interchangeable lens camera so they can use many styles of lenses depending on the type of shoot.

Keep a budget in mind

Newer cameras will run from $300 and up. You can find great second hand options online with places such as Facebook marketplace or EBay. If you prefer a new camera, I would recommend checking out Amazon. They have a large selection of cameras and you can be protected from fraud with amazon Prime.

Always keep in mind cameras are great tools, but you will need to leverage your creativity to get great results. Also, you will need to make sure you have a computer (MAC or Windows) that can handle the large footage files so you can edit your projects together.

Great features to look for in a camera

Camera Tilt Screens

Most LED lights are cool to the touch and rarely get hot when using them for a long period of time. Always use caution when using any lighting equipment.

Face Recognition Feature

Cameras have come a long way with new technical features. One of those features in facial recognition built right into the software. Cameras can now detect faces in the video frame and help with focusing on the correct subject. Not all cameras have this, but it is a great feature if you are going to be doing projects solo much of the time.

Hot-Show or Optional Adapters

If you plan to have audio or a presenter in your videos, you will want to make sure you can attach a microphone to your camera. This will help you record great audio and video for your project. There are external microphones that connect to the Hot-shoe adapter on the top of the camera, but also there are some that will plug directly into the audio-in plug on the side or top of the camera.
